Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awaas Yojana (PMGAY), previously Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY), is a social welfare flagship programme, created by the Indian Government, to provide housing for the rural poor in India.The broad purpose of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to some of the weakest sections of society for them to upgrade or construct a house of respectable quality for their personal living
Many people in our country don’t have their own house. In villages, poor people do have their own houses but the condition of such houses is miserable. So, under the Gramin Awas yojana, the government provides financial assistance to prepare Pucca houses to eligible people

Pradhan mantri awas yojana rural Eligibility
To make the most of this scheme, all those who are interested must be aware of the eligibility. Here are the eligibility details –
The beneficiaries are chosen as per the Census 2011 (SECC 2011)
Preference is given to those people who are either home less or live in kuccha house
Every year a list of beneficiaries will be made
Under this scheme following financial benefit will be given according to the location –
Plane Areas – Rs 1,20,000
Hilly Areas – Rs 1,30,000
Along with this financial Assistance, every beneficiary will be offered 90 to 95 days employment under MNREGA which would be almost Rs. 18,000. A sum of Rs. 12,000 will also be offered to construct Toilets.
